Head of Ballet Department
BSc(Hons), ARAD, RTS RAD
Watching my students fall in love with the dance and achieve challenging dance moves I feel are, some of the most exciting rewards of my life as a dance teacher.
Christina was trained extensively in classical ballet and Chinese dance from an early age along with various other forms of dance including jazz, tap, modern dance, hip hop and contemporary dance. With over 20 years of dance training, she has had the opportunity to perform in numerous ballet such as The Slave Princess, Paquita, and Swan Lake.
She was fortunate to be able to learn from some of the greatest ballet masters and teachers around the world in summer schools, workshops and pre-professional dance courses.
During her time as a student, she was given the “Best Student Award” in recognition for her determination, perseverance, and achievements. She has achieved outstanding results in all her classical ballet examinations, particularly RAD Level 4 Diploma in Vocational Graded Examination in Dance: Advanced 2 Ballet, which she has attained a Distinction and became an Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance.
In the year 2012, she started her Flamenco dance training with Maestro Antonio Vargas and Daphne Huang Vargas. Since then, she fell in love with this Spanish art form and today continues to learn under some of the finest flamenco teachers in Singapore.
Due to her strong passion for dance and her love for teaching, Christina went on to pursue a Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies in Toronto, Canada under the tutelage of Catherine Kourkounakis, a professional dance educator. During her time in Toronto, she has taught recreational Ballet classes as well as summer camps. She has over 15 years of classical ballet teaching experience to students from pre-school age to adults. Being a Registered Teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance, she teaches and prepares students for RAD examinations.
Her students consistently receive excellent results in the exams. Over the past years, she has choreographed for recitals, charities, fundraisers, festivals and corporate events. She continues to attend courses and classes for professional development. In recent years, she has obtained a certification in Pilates mat from Polestar.
She hopes to improve her students’ alignment, flexibility and muscular strength through Pilates. She has also completed her certification in Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), a program which focuses on training dancers in muscle memory to improve ballet technique.
Christina is very loving, enthusiastic and motivated teacher who enjoys working with students of all ages and diverse cultural backgrounds. She is always dedicated to help the students develop their potential to the fullest by incorporating different methods of teaching. She sees the ballet as an art form strongly focused on both technique and artistry. Believing that teaching is one of the most beautiful professions in the world, she is excited to be part of the teaching team and looks forward to sharing her knowledge and passion for dance with her students.
